Das größere Display braucht der S-XGen nur für Windows Mobile 6 und nicht für Mobile 5. Dazu ist aber keine Zertifizierung notwendig, man muss nur die Anforderungen von Microsoft erfüllen.

Besser als S-XGen (Museumstück)
EeePC in Deutschland ab Dezember für 299 Euro
Asus hat am heutigen Dienstag das Geheimnis um den EeePC in Deutschland gelüftet. Anders als in Taiwan, wo drei Versionen vermarktet werden, soll es in Deutschland zunächst nur ein Modell geben. Der EeePC 4G wird 299 Euro kosten und mit 4 GByte SSD-Speicher kommen. Die Garantie läuft über zwei Jahre. WLAN nach 802.11b/G bringt er mit, ebenso eine Kamera und LAN.
Wie ein Vorabtest zeigt, hat der EeePC mehr zu bieten als nur den günstigen Preis. Der Eee PC ist lediglich 22,6 cm × 16,4 cm × (2,6 … 3,7) cm groß. Bei dieser Größe spielt die Ergonomie eine entscheidende Rolle und das betrifft nicht zuletzt die Software. Asus hat sich für ein Xandros Linux entschieden, jede Menge Anwendungen mit reingepackt und die Bedienoberfläche Asus Launcher optimal an das nur 7 Zoll kleine Display (800 × 480) angepasst. Trotz langsamer Hardware mit Celeron M (Dothan-Kern, 900 MHz) und Chipsatzgrafik Intel GMA 900 starten System und Anwendungen, darunter auch Open Office, äußerst schnell.
Schon vor dem offiziellen Launch in Taiwan war das Interesse an dem handlichen Mini-Rechner groß, denn mit den dortigen Verkaufspreisen zwischen 216 und 300 Euro läutet der Laptop die neue Ära der extrem günstigen Mobilrechner ein – viele Handys kosten schon mehr. Welche Auswirkungen der EeePC auf die seit Jahren eh schon fallenden Preise von Notebooks aller Kategorien hat, lässt sich noch gar nicht absehen.
Den Markt der Billig-Laptops rollt Asus mit dem EeePC als Erster auf, Quanta will mit dem XO aus dem Projekt "One Laptop per Child" (OLPC) mitmischen und Intel hat den Classmate im Programm. Unabhängig davon, wer die Oberhand behält, ist Intel hervorragend aufgestellt, denn im Classmate und EeePC steckt dessen Hardware und seit kurzem hat der Konzern einen Vorstandssitz bei OLPC.
Offenbar hat Asus von den ähnlich kleinen Ultra-Mobile PCs (UMPCs) gelernt, die ebenfalls genügsame Hardware haben, aber mit Windows XP oder Vista überfordert waren; auch deshalb, weil Windows auf solch niedrigauflösenden Displays eigentlich unbedienbar ist. Der EeePC bringt stattdessen ein System mit, das ohne Handbuch sofort bedienbar ist und eine Vielzahl von sofort einsatzbereiten Anwendungen hat. Für Anwender, die sich davon nicht überzeugen lassen, wird Asus noch Ende des Jahres eine Windows-Version des EeePC auf den Markt bringen.
Seine Grenzen erreicht der EeePC bei vielen Daten. In der Version 701 4G steckt eine Solid State Disk mit nur 4 GByte, wovon System und Anwendungen 2,3 GByte belegen. Für persönliche Daten stehen nur 1,4 GByte zur Verfügung. Eine SD-Card im Schacht kann etwas Abhilfe schaffen, aber im Vergleich zu üblichen Notebook-Festplatten mit weit mehr als 100 GByte kommt der EeePC hier nicht gut weg.
Wegen der geringen Größe eignet sich der EeePC natürlich als Begleiter für unterwegs. Asus will den EeePC allerdings eher als Heim-Gerät für die gesamte Familie vermarkten. Wegen des geringen Preises sind aber auch ungewöhnliche Anwendungsmöglichkeiten möglich. Mit einer USB-Festplatte am EeePC könnte er ein NAS ersetzen, etwas Linux-Tuning vorausgesetzt. Als Server für 299 Euro bietet er sich in einigen Umgebungen ebenfalls an.
Zudem könnte der Kleine im Bildungswesen Verbreitung finden. Doch ist der EeePC kein Bildungsprojekt wie der XO-Laptop, der noch auf sich warten lässt, auch wenn Hersteller Quanta am Auslieferungstermin 2007 festhält. Für private Anwender hat OLPC das Programm Give 1 Get 1 ins Leben gerufen, das am 12. November starten soll: Für 399 US-Dollar kann man einen solchen Schüler-Laptop kaufen, ein weiteres Gerät wird über den Preis gespendet. Diese Kombination macht den S-Xgen ja erst zu etwas besonderen.

Eyeing 34 Million Chinese Outbound Travelers Market To Use Their Services
BEIJING, Jan. 9 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Smooth Global (China) Holdings, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SMGH - News; "SMGH") today announced that it's subsidiary, Beijing GRT Information Services Limited ("Beijing GRT") has signed contracts with eight sales agents located at Nanjing, Urumchi, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing and Jinan to provide International Call Forwarding Services ("ICFS") to outbound travelers. The sales agents agreed to pay SMGH a fixed one-time fee of RMB 240,000 for the joining fee and agreed to purchase a minimum number of business travel mobile SIM cards.

Before the addition of these eight sales agents, Beijing GRT had one branch established in Shanghai, which provides ICFS to 2 countries namely Hong Kong and Thailand. The Shanghai branch has recorded unaudited revenues of $1.57 million for the year 2007. The newly signed agents, namely Guangzhou and Chongqing, have the same characteristic business environment as Shanghai. Therefore if Shanghai is used as a base for the calculation of potential revenue for the city of Guangzhou and Chongqing, there will be another $3.1 million for the coming 2008 year based on those 2 new agents alone. Revenues from the other six sales agents are expected to be similar.
The Chinese capital city, Beijing, will be the next target for Beijing GRT to open yet another branch for the year 2008. Beijing is expected to bring in revenues exceeding those of Shanghai.
The market for the ICFS will be Chinese residents who travel abroad for business reasons. Between 1999 and 2006, this market grew by 22% annually, increasing from 9 million travelers in 1999 to over 34 million travelers in 2006. Since China has the largest mobile phone subscriber base in the world -- 463 million subscribers at the end of 2006, most of those travelers will be potential subscribers to our ICFS. According to our experience, each ICFS subscriber will spend about RMB 120 each time they travel abroad. Currently, we are not aware of any service provider offering this service in China; therefore, initially our competition will come from the roaming services provided by the mobile carriers.
