According to the agreement, GT was to supply Apple with more than 2,000 sapphire-growing furnaces.
"The transaction had the potential to be revolutionary for GTAT's business and a significant achievement for Apple," Squiller said. But the production of the amount of sapphire that Apple needed during a certain time frame was not achievable and ended up costing more money than anticipated, he said.
"These problems and difficulties resulted in a liquidity crisis at GTAT, which led to the commencement of these Chapter 11 cases," Squiller said. The relationship with Apple ultimately became "unsustainable," he said.
Other interesting facts about the GT-Apple relationship:
GT was unable to negotiate changes to the pricing regime set forth in the Apple agreements, and GT was selling sapphire material at a substantial loss, Squiller said.
GT's losses would have increased substantially in 2015 when the price for finished sapphire material was scheduled to decrease under the agreements with Apple.
GT has incurred approximately $900 million in costs in connection with the Apple project......Last week, the two companies reached a settlement agreement that had GT winding down its operations in Arizona and Salem.

Squiller emphasized that the combined impact if the actions of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and its unwillingness to negotiate changes in the agreements prompted GTAT to reluctantly file for chapter 11 to protect the value of its business by removing itself from the iPhone maker’s control.
He said GTAT was shut out of the global market for its valuable sapphire material because of the non-competition provisions of the Apple agreement.
“With a classic bait-and-switch” strategy, Apple presented GTAT with an onerous and massively one-sided deal in the fall of 2013,” said Squiller.

Commerzbank führt negative Zinsen ein
FRANKFURT—Die Commerzbank CBK.XE -2,21% wird die negativen Einlagezinsen der Europäischen Zentralbank voraussichtlich schon ab Dezember an große Unternehmenskunden weiterreichen und ihnen eine Gebühr für hohe Guthaben berechnen. Bei “einzelnen großen Firmenkunden mit hohen Guthaben sowie bei Großkonzernen und institutionellen Anlegern” behalte es sich die Bank vor, eine “Guthabengebühr” zu berechnen, bestätigte die Commerzbank dem Wall Street Journal Deutschland entsprechende Informationen. Damit will die Bank dafür sorgen, dass die Unternehmen nicht zu viel Geld auf ihren Konten bunkern. Grund für diesen Schritt seien die negativen Einlagezinsen der EZB........

In Sachen GT Advanced Technologies Inc., wer weiss wie es weitergeht ?
Soviel ich weiss, können mittels "Chapitre 11" - vor allem Firmen in finanzieller Bedrängnis - sich die Gläubiger auf Zeit etwas vom Hals gehalten werden, um so wirtschaftlich doch noch zu überleben.
Also nicht ein Absturz in den KONKURS, sondern die Bewahrung davor.
