Große Funde befeuern Gold- und Kupferrausch in Serbien
Geht es um Bergbau in Serbien, steht meistens Rio Tintos Lithiumprojekt Jadar im Mittelpunkt. Doch in dem südosteuropäischen Land wurde mit deutlich leiseren Tönen schon vor Jahren die Jagd auf Gold und Kupfer gestartet. Zuletzt vermeldeten mehrere Bergbauunternehmen bedeutende Fortschritte.
Das Explorationsunternehmen Electrum Discovery (ISIN: CA28616D1087, WKN: A401HN) verkündete nun einen Meilenstein: Im ersten Quartal 2025 soll bei Timok East in Serbien ein 2.000 Meter umfassendes Diamantbohrprogramm starten. Mit dem Programm wollen die Geologen des Teams die flachen, steil nach Osten abfallenden Strukturen unter den mineralisierten Aufschlüssen im Zielgebiet Bambino Central testen.
Rohstoffexploration in Serbien schreitet rasch voran
Bambino verdeutlicht, mit welchem Tempo Bergbauunternehmen den serbischen Rohstoffschatz explorieren. Entdeckt wurde die Kupfer-Gold-Anomalie im Mai – damals bis zu 550 Meter lang und über 100 Meter breit und in alle Richtungen offen. „Die Kupfergehalte im Boden reichen von 500 bis 8.238 ppm, und die Gesteinssplitterproben weisen Gehalte von 2,85 % bzw. 0,32 % Kupfer auf“, hieß es im damaligen Bericht des Explorers.
Dem Team um CEO Dr. Elena Clarici war schnell klar: Hier könnte eine große Entdeckung schlummern. „Große Vorkommen sind zunehmend schwieriger zu finden und Gebiete mit großen Minen sind normalerweise das beste Gebiet, um danach zu suchen“, war in Notizen des Unternehmens Anfang Juli zu lesen.
Nicht ohne Grund: Zu diesem Zeitpunkt konnte bereits eine signifikante Erweiterung von Bambino vermeldet werden. Die Anomalie wurde von 550 Metern bei der ersten Probenentnahme auf eine Länge von 1,8 Kilometern erweitert.
Im August wurde durch die Entnahme von Gesteinssplitterproben eine signifikante Kupfer-Gold-Mineralisierung bei Bambino bestätigt. Die Ergebnisse zeigten 1,85 % Cu und 1,27 g/t Au.
Im September startete ein 300 Meter langes Grabungsprogramm quer durch das Zielgebiet, um hochgradige Zonen abzugrenzen und so die Bohrplanung zu erleichtern. Auch neue Gesteinssplitterproben wurden gesammelt.
Ende Oktober folgte der nächste Meilenstein: Gesteinssplitteranalysen bestätigten die Kupfer-Gold-Mineralisierung über signifikante Erweiterungen auf über 1,5 Kilometer Streichlänge. Proben ergaben Gehalte von 14,2 g/t Au und 3,35 g/t Au, Kupfer-Gold-haltige Gesteine umfassten Grade von 4,93 g/t Au und 0,57 % Cu sowie 2,62 g/t Au und 1,21 % Cu.
Anfang November lagen die Ergebnisse des 300 Meter Grabenprobenprogramms vor. Diese ergaben 133,5 Metern mit durchschnittlich 0,43 % Cu und 6,9 g/t Ag entlang des Streichens, einschließlich eines höhergradigen Abschnitts von 64,5 Metern mit 0,76 % Cu und 5,3 g/t Ag. In drei sich kreuzenden Gräben wurde eine bedeutende Kupfer- und Goldmineralisierung durchteuft, darunter 13,5 Meter mit 1,72 % Cu und 1,6 g/t Ag. Zusätzliche goldhaltige Abschnitte, darunter 4,5 Meter mit 1,49 g/t Au und 6,9 g/t Ag sowie 1,5 Meter mit 2,9 g/t Au und 20 g/t Ag, deuten weiterhin auf das Vorhandensein eines überlagernden Goldsystems hin.
Electrum Discovery identifiziert hochprioritäre Bohrziele
Kurz vor Weihnachten lagen dann auch die Ergebnisse einer hochauflösenden induzierten Polarisationsuntersuchung und einer 3D-geochemischen Porphyr-Zielanalyse vor. Diese Ergebnisse konnten mehrere hochprioritäre Bohrziele herauskristallisieren.
Timok East von Electrum befindet sich trotz der großen Fortschritte noch in einem recht frühen Entwicklungsstadium. In unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft gibt es mehrere Projekte mit ähnlicher Geologie in vorangeschrittenen Stadien.
Das Projektgebiet des Explorers grenzt an mehrere Minen und Projekte von Zijin Mining: Bor, Veliki Krivelj, Čukari Peki und Majdanpek.
Ein weiterer Nachbar ist Dundee Precious Metals. Das Bergbauunternehmen konnte mehrere Kupfer-Gold- und Goldmineralisierungsarten in Sedimentgesteinen am westlichen Rand und außerhalb des traditionellen Timok Magmatic Complex identifizieren.
Im Januar 2023 gab Dundee die Entdeckung einer hochgradigen Lagerstätte bei Čoka Rakita bekannt und begann mit einem intensiven Infill-, Erweiterungs- und Zielabgrenzungsbohrprogramm in der Lagerstätte. Im Dezember 2023 folgte eine erste Schätzung der vermuteten Mineralressourcen von 1,8 Millionen Unzen Gold.
Zijin, Dundee, Mundoro, BHP: Große Bergbauunternehmen setzen auf Serbien
Die jüngste Vormachbarkeitsstudie taxiert das Potenzial für eine beschleunigte Goldproduktion von durchschnittlich 170.000 Unzen Gold pro Jahr in den ersten fünf Jahren. Ausgehend von einem Goldpreis von 1.900 USD pro Feinunze beträgt der NPV (5 %) im Basisszenario 735 Millionen USD (nach Steuern), der IRR 41 %. Die AISC werden über die Minenlebensdauer hinweg auf 644 USD taxiert.
Mundoro Capital entwickelt in der Region die Projekte Borsko, South Timok und Trstenik. Borsko umfasst ein Explorationsgebiet von 34,5 km² und befindet sich in direkter Nachbarschaft der produzierenden Kupfer-Porphyr-Mine Bor. South Timok erstreckt sich über 213 km² und gilt aufgrund der geologischen Eigenschaften als aussichtsreich im Hinblick auf Kupfer-Gold-Porphyre und damit zusammenhängende epithermale Systeme. Trestenik umfasst 55 km² und weist Ähnlichkeiten mit der Lagerstätte Majdanpek auf. Die Projekte sind so aussichtsreich, dass sich der Bergbauriese BHP durch Earn-In-Deals bereits 2023 den Zugriff darauf gesichert hat.
Electrum Discovery ist zuversichtlich, im kommenden Jahr weitere Ergebnisse für Timok East vermelden zu können. Die Finanzierung des Bohrprogramms steht – im aktuellen Marktumfeld für kleinere Explorer (die aktuelle Marktkapitalisierung: 6,7 Mio. EUR) keine Selbstverständlichkeit. Das Team wurde jüngst zum wiederholten Male erweitert.
Der Aktienkurs des kanadischen Unternehmens hat in den vergangenen Monaten spürbar zugelegt. Die Annahmen des Teams um CEO Clarici könnten sich als richtig erweisen. „In der Vergangenheit konzentrierte sich die Exploration auf den Hauptporphyrtrend von Timok, und das neue Potenzial für Mineralisierungen im Lagermaßstab in Sedimentgesteinen neben diesem Trend wird nun allgemein anerkannt“, hatte Clarici im Oktober geäußert.

Funding from the Program will be directed to the Company’s Timok East copper-gold project ("Timok East") in the Republic of Serbia.

There are no obligations or commitments on Electrum beyond the conclusion of the BHP Xplor program in July 2025. However, during the grant period, BHP might elect to make an investment proposal and Electrum is under no obligation to accept it. In the event of Electrum opting to decline this investment offer, BHP will have a right of first refusal in respect of any direct investment into the Timok East Project for a period of 12 months, following the date of the investment proposal.

There are no obligations or commitments on Electrum beyond the conclusion of the BHP Xplor program in July 2025. However, during the grant period, BHP might elect to make an investment proposal and Electrum is under no obligation to accept it. In the event of Electrum opting to decline this investment offer, BHP will have a right of first refusal in respect of any direct investment into the Timok East Project for a period of 12 months, following the date of the investment proposal.

BHP announces explorers selected for 2025 BHP Xplor critical minerals accelerator program
BHP today announced the names of eight early-stage mineral exploration companies chosen from hundreds from around the world to participate in the 2025 Xplor accelerator program.
BHP’s Group Exploration Officer, Tim O’Connor, said: “As the energy transition gathers pace it becomes more urgent that we can identify, develop and commercialize the discoveries required to support the transition. The 2025 Xplor cohort are the sorts of explorers that naturally embrace innovation in bringing promising new projects to life. We are excited to be partnering with them as part of BHP’s strategy to aid the energy transition.”
The eight successful applicants for Xplor 2025 are:
Scout Discoveries – USA. Scout Discoveries Corp. explores Idaho's untapped mineral potential, leveraging a large technical team with extensive local expertise and two wholly owned core drills. Scout's strategic approach involves advancing a curated portfolio of tier one-scale mineral projects, focusing on the discovery portion of the value curve. Key assets include Cuddy Mountain (Porphyry Cu) and Erickson Ridge (Orogenic Au), among twelve other earlier stage precious and base metals projects generated by the team.
Orogen Royalties – USA. Orogen is a royalty and mineral exploration company engaged in the business of royalty creation through prospect generation and acquisition. Orogen’s project generation business involves staking or acquiring prospective exploration targets through use of our proprietary data and boots-on-the-ground geoscience. With eight properties under option, six projects for sale or option, one exploration alliance and a portfolio of 27 royalties, Orogen strives to maximise investment returns while managing risks to create value sustainably. Condor Prospecting – Argentina. Condor Prospecting is an exploration company which has been operating in Argentina since 2016 where it is focused on project generation and exploration for critical mineral resources for greener, cleaner energies. Committed to sustainability and community engagement, Condor holds multiple projects across Argentina and conducts exploration for various companies in Argentina.
Viridian Metals – Canada. A leader in pioneering generative metal exploration, Viridian Metals is dedicated to responsibly discovering and sourcing Labrador's critical metal deposits, primarily copper. The company leverages innovative technologies to drive sustainability in energy-transition supply chains while fostering strong local and global partnerships to support the transition to ethically sourced metals for the energy sector.
DesertEx – Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is now recognized as a key emerging region for future facing commodity growth. To capitalize on the unique timing of this opportunity DesertEx was formed by a group of passionate and experienced explorers to evaluate the multi-commodity prospectivity of the country.
Electrum Discovery Corp – Serbia. Electrum Discovery Corp. is a Canadian-based mineral exploration and development company focused on copper and gold in the Western Tethyan Belt. The company holds a portfolio of projects in the Republic of Serbia, covering 645 km². Focus of the Company is advancing exploration at its Timok East copper-gold project, and the expanding Novo Tlamino gold project, which hosts an inferred resource of 670,000 oz AuEq.
Firetail Resources – Peru. Firetail Resources is an Australian-based copper exploration company with a global footprint of battery and critical minerals, holding projects in Canada and Peru and Australia. The company is currently developing the Skyline Project (VMS - Copper-Zinc-Silver) in Newfoundland, Canada along with the Picha Project (Copper-Silver) in Southern Peru, where the area is prospective for epithermal, stratabound, carbonate replacement (CRD) and porphyry related styles of copper mineralization. Firetail trades on the ASX under the symbol FTL.
GreenX Metals – Germany. GreenX drives the Green Revolution through exploration and development of critical mineral resources. Focused on European copper, gold, and critical metal opportunities, GreenX is active in Germany and Greenland.
